Aqua-Walker part of yearling preparation
The husband-and-wife combination of Russell and Robyn Rogers had only one yearling on offer at the Karaka Premier Session, but it proved no barrier to a very solid result with the colt by Fastnet Rock from La Campanella fetching $260,000.
The Cambridge-based couple operate under the Kendayla Park banner and were responsible for building and promoting New Zealand's very first Aqua Walker, which has been part of the Fastnet Rock colt's preparation.
"He just loved the Aqua Walker," Russell Rogers told NZTM. Rogers said that there had been considerable interest in the colt leading up to his offering on the first day of Karaka 2009.
"He ticked every box, really. He was by an in-demand sire from a More Than Ready mare and he had size, type and temperament."
Rogers was delighted that the horse had been purchased by acclaimed international buyer, Demi O'Byrne.
"This colt is the first foal of the mare. She's got a Darci Brahma at foot and is in foal to Darci Brahma again now."
The dam, La Campanella, was a winner in this country and placed at Group Three level in the Eclipse Stakes at Ellerslie. The third dam, India's Dream (by Western Symphony) won the Western Australian Oaks-Gr.1, while the fourth dam, Hasten Lass (by Jungle Boy) won 10 races including a Listed event.
